This decision is part of Microsoft’s plan to discontinue support for the Windows 10 operating system in autumn. Starting October 14, the OneNote notebook service for Windows 10 will no longer be supported. Microsoft has openly stated that this is necessary to encourage users to switch to Windows 11.
As an alternative, users can migrate to the desktop version of OneNote available through a Microsoft 365 subscription. To ease the transition, three months before the support ends, a banner will appear in the application encouraging users to find alternatives. Additionally, the data synchronization speed in the “old” OneNote will be deliberately slowed down to further persuade users to abandon the service for Windows 10.
