The developer kit for the Nintendo Switch 2 console does not include a 4K video output

With the full reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 just hours away, rumors continue to swirl. One of them is the absence of 4K support in the development kits for the new console.

According to insider Tom Henderson, referencing developers, it was revealed during GDC in San Francisco that the Switch 2 dev kits are not equipped with 4K video output.

This information was also confirmed via email from a second source. While this does not necessarily mean the final version of the console will abandon 4K, it may indicate a shift in Nintendo’s plans.

Previously, it was believed that the console would output 4K resolution when connected to a docking station and work at 1080p in handheld mode. However, the absence of 4K support in the developer kits casts doubt on this assumption.

It’s worth noting that developer kits often differ from the final consumer device, and an updated version with full 4K support might still emerge.

Answers to all questions, including specifications and pricing, are expected today, April 2nd, during Nintendo Direct.
