OpenAI has filed a counter-lawsuit against Elon Musk, accusing him of “bad faith actions” aimed at undermining the company and seizing control over key AI developments.
The organization announced this in a post on the X platform, adding, “Elon’s endless attacks are an attempt to slow down OpenAI for personal gain.”
The lawsuit claims that “Musk’s constant assaults, including the recent fictitious acquisition attempt, hinder OpenAI’s future and must be stopped.” Lawyers demand Musk be banned from further actions and held accountable for the damage already done.
Previously, Musk, one of OpenAI’s founders, frequently criticized the company for deviating from its original mission of developing AI for the benefit of humanity. In the spring, he filed a lawsuit but later withdrew it, only to file another one in August.
In response, OpenAI published a post titled “Elon Musk wanted OpenAI to become commercial,” supporting this claim with internal emails.
In early 2025, Musk made a $97.4 billion “buyout offer” for OpenAI, stating that the company should “return to open and safe principles.” The board of directors unanimously rejected the initiative, calling it a “fiction” in today’s lawsuit
