Macrumors insiders with reference to the EtNews industry industry said that some IPhone 15, 16 and 17 models can be prohibited for importing to the United States due to BOE violation, Samsung’s commercial secrets in OLED.
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) recommended banning the import of OLED panels, modules and devices in violation of patent rights. BOE products, already produced for the iPhone, will not be prohibited, but this may affect future deliveries.
According to information, many IPhone 15 and 16 models sold in the United States are equipped with BOE OLED displays, and this situation can create problems for Apple if the case comes to the ban on supply. At the same time, it is not yet known whether the displays from BOE in the iPhone 17 and 17 Air will be used.
It is also reported that during this year BOE plans to put Apple display with LTPO technology for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max in China, but these models can be limited due to the inconsistency of Apple requirements.
The confrontation between companies began with the Samsung claim to BOE in October 2023. Samsung claimed that Boe illegally used her technology. The final ITC decision is expected in November 2025, after which the US president will have 60 days for approval or imposing a veto on the document.
If Apple has to look for a replacement of BOE, orders, with a high probability, will be transferred to Samsung and LG.
