Scientists from Krasnodar are working on the creation of a new method for diagnosing lung cancer in the early stages. The technology is based on the analysis of the composition of exhausted air using artificial intelligence (AI).
As an oncologist Dmitry Perunov explained, a new approach allows you to detect pathological changes at the molecular level before clinical symptoms. The method is planned to be used in combination with traditional diagnostic methods such as computed tomography in order to increase the effectiveness of screening.
The development is carried out jointly by the specialists of the Kuban State University and the Research Institute of the Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1. Scientists emphasize that despite progress – a decrease in mortality from lung cancer over the past 20 years – it is necessary to continue to improve early diagnostic methods.
Perunov recalled that smoking remains the main risk factor. A complete rejection of tobacco is still the most effective way to prevent this dangerous disease.
