Windows Server update “broke” clusters and virtual machines

24.07.2025

Microsoft warned companies about problems after installing safety renewal KB5062557 for Windows Server 2019 released on July 8th. So, due to the update, the service that is responsible for the work of clusters may work incorrectly.

Due to the error, the Cluster service can often be restarted, due to which the cluster nodes cannot connect or fall into insulation mode. Also, virtual machines can be rebooted several times in a row, and errors with code 7031 appear in events magazines.

Problems often arise on systems with the BitLocker security function, when the general volume of Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) is used.

Microsoft has already developed a temporary solution to eliminate these failures, but has not yet released it for all users. Therefore, the company asks for organizations that have encountered this problem to contact the Microsoft support service for help and temporary corrections.

In the future, Microsoft plans to include constant correction in one of the following Windows updates, after which a separate setting of a temporary solution is not required.
