The Russian aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov” will soon be mothballed, the news writes. After that, the ship will be either sold or disposed of. All important equipment and mechanisms will be removed – they are planned to be used on other ships. The housing will be prepared for long -term storage, and all water intake devices will be brewed.
Previously, repairs and modernization of Kuznetsov were stopped, and experts believe that continuing them does not make sense. The aircraft carrier is over 40 years old, and to support it in the ranks is too expensive.
After conservation, a small crew will remain on the ship – about 150-200 people. They will monitor the condition of the vessel. Previously, about 2,200 sailors served on Kuznetsov.
The military expert interviewed by the publication considers the decision to preserve the ship correct. The money that was spent and which still had to be invested is better to use on other tasks.
Experts also note that after the write -off of Kuznetsov, you should not rush with the construction of new aircraft carriers – there are no good reasons for this.
