In July 2025, Baku hosted the 8th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, emphasized the strong historical and cultural ties between the two nations, along with mutual respect and trust between their people and leadership — a key driver of the dynamic partnership.

The session highlighted promising prospects for joint initiatives in trade, energy, transportation, industrial zones, and agriculture. Azerbaijan currently hosts 75 Turkmen-capital companies operating across various sectors. The country’s robust energy infrastructure positions it as a strong partner in developing energy cooperation.
Transit cargo volumes between both countries continue to rise steadily, with over 2 million tons recorded last year and 1 million tons in the first half of 2025.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a formal protocol was signed by the commission’s co-chairs, outlining plans to deepen collaboration across economic, trade, transport, energy, and agricultural sectors.
