A very strong earthquake of magnitude 8.5 occurred off the coast of Kamchatka, which was commented by the director of the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences Danil Chebrov. According to him, it was unique.
According to him, such an earthquake can be called unique. It was much more powerful than the shocks of July 20. The break of the earth’s crust spread by about 200 kilometers in the southwestern direction.
Now in the region, Afterchoki continues – these are weak repeated shocks after the main earthquake. However, as Chebrov noted, new strong underground shocks are not expected.
Experts continue to monitor the situation and evaluate the possible consequences.
