The General Director of Roscosmos Dmitry Bakanov spoke about his communication with Ilon Mask.
In an interview with RBC, Bakanov emphasized that the mask is not accidentally considered a well -known popularizer of the idea of flight to Mars. According to the head of the Russian space corporation, Mask is an outstanding figure who made a significant contribution to the development of world cosmonautics. Bakanov also noted that he had a “couple of discussions” with Ilon Mask on the topic of cooperation in the field of space development. Bakanov said that the company Mask, SpaceX, is actively developing the space industry. SpaceX created the Falcon9, Starlink, Dragon, Starship and Falcon Heavy projects, which dominate some space services markets.
Bakanov also identified a number of problems that humanity will encounter when trying to colonize Mars. According to him, for a successful flight, it is necessary to “catch an astronomical window”, develop infrastructure and evaluate the effect of a long flight on the human body.
The head of Roscosmos emphasized that first it is necessary to work out all the necessary technologies on the moon, and then prepare for flights to Mars.
“A person who has done a lot for the development of world cosmonautics, as you know. Falcon9, Starlink, Dragon, Starship, Falcon Heavy – this is the SPACEX product, its company. And they occupy a majority share now in a number of space services markets. But here we can only compete, because their technologies are very developed. We discussed potentially joint cooperation on long space. Elon is a very enthusiastic person. He really burns the idea of colonization of Mars. The whole world is watching this closely. And, let’s see, maybe some technologies could be applied to implement programs in distant space together. We will discuss, ”said Dmitry Bakanov.
