Tesla began the test launch of its Robotaxi service in San Francisco, but it’s too early to talk about completely autonomous trips.
As it turned out, cars arrive with the driver at the wheel – in accordance with current restrictions. Despite the statements of Ilona Mask about future trips without drivers, in California Tesla has yet received only one of the three necessary permits to launch the commercial service of unmanned taxis.
This gives the right to transport passengers, but only with a person behind the wheel.
Previously, a similar test was held in Austin, Texas, where the security operator was also present in the car.
The only company that currently has a full set of permits for autonomous trips to San Francisco is Waymo owned by Alphabet.
Nevertheless, Musk retains ambitious plans: he told investors about his intention to expand the Robotaxi service on Florida, Nevada and Arizona. When Tesla moves to completely autonomous trips, it is still unclear.
