The commander of the US space forces announced the need for refueling in orbit

07.08.2025

The Commander of the US Space Forces (Spacecom), General Stephen Waring, announced the need to improve the mobility of satellites in orbit. According to him, satellites must be able to quickly maneuver in order to evade threats and even pursue enemy devices.

The general noted that in space the maneuvers are no longer reduced only to movement from the point, and to point B. Today, satellites must choose the path wisely, so that for opponents they become a “surprise”, protect the missions and extend the service life. If the satellite has little fuel, it becomes “vulnerable and predictable.”

Spacecom has been asking for financing for new technologies for several years – powerful engines, refueling stations in orbit and other solutions that allow satellites to move longer and more actively. However, military budgets have allocated few funds for this.

The general also spoke about the International Operation Olympic Defender, where the USA, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand and Great Britain are jointly working on defense in space. The project has already reached the initial stage of combat readiness.
