South Korea said that the largest manufacturers of the country’s chips – Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix – will not fall under the new 100% duties of the United States for semiconductors. Recently, Donald Trump said that the United States will introduce about 100% duties on chips from countries that do not produce them in America and do not plan to do this. But companies that are already building factories in the United States will be released from these measures.
Samsung has long been investing in American capacities: she has two factories in Austin and Taylor. SK Hynix plans to build an Indiana company in the packaging of chips and the Center for Research in the field of AI. Experts believe that SK Hynix can have difficulties with a complete benefit, since the plant will only be packaged.
Samsung, on the contrary, received an additional plus – the company has become a supplier of Apple chips, which will be produced at its plant in Texas for iPhone and other products.
Against the background of the news, the Samsung shares increased by 2.6%, SK Hynix – by 0.6%. Both companies refused to comment on Trump’s statement.
