In the USA, Fintiv from Texas filed a lawsuit against Apple, accusing it of illegally using the technologies used in the Apple Pay service. According to the plaintiff, the key functions of the service are based on the development of Corfire, which Fintiv acquired in 2014. Now these technologies are used in hundreds of millions of Apple devices around the world.
Fintiv claims that in 2011-2012, Apple held negotiations with Corfire and entered into information non -disclosure agreements to access mobile payments technologies. However, instead of licensing, Apple, according to the plaintiff, attracted Corfire employees and used their achievements to launch Apple Pay in 2014 in the USA and other countries.
In addition, FinTIV accuses Apple of organizing an informal scheme that brings the income of both the company and issuing cards, including Bank of America, Capital One, Citigroup, Jpmorgan Chase and Wells Fargo, as well as the American Express payment systems, as well MasterCard and Visa.
In the lawsuit filed in the Federal Court of Atlanta, FinTIV requires compensation and penalties for violation of the laws of the United States and Georgia to protect commercial secrets and counteract the racket. Apple is indicated by the only defendant.
