In August 2025, the sky will delight the Perseids with a bright starfall – one of the most beautiful meteor streams. The peak of activity is expected on the night of August 12 to 13 from about 23:00 Moscow time. At this time, under good conditions, you can see up to 100 “falling stars” per hour, writes Gazeta.ru.
Perseids are active from July 17 to August 24, but the most striking stream of meteors is observed in the first half of August, especially from the 5th to the 20th. The best time to observe – from midnight until dawn, when the constellation Perseus rises high above the horizon.
In 2025, the moon after the full moon on August 9 will interfere with the observations, illuminating the sky and hiding weak meteors. Nevertheless, the brightest meteors, called the car, will be noticeable even against the background of the moonlight.
A starfall can be seen almost throughout Russia, except for areas with white nights in the north. The best conditions are in the middle lane, in the Urals, in Siberia and in the Far East, where the nights are dark. In large cities, due to street lighting, meteors are worse. It is better to go outside the city – at least 30 km from small settlements and more than 100 km from large cities.
