Specialists of the Institute of Oil and Gas Geology SB RAS are developing a three -dimensional model of Volcano Pavlov – one of the most active in Alaska. The work is based on these American colleagues using seismic tomography methods.
As the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences explained, the model will determine the location of magmatic foci and geothermal flows. These data will help predict the nature of future eruptions – whether they will be explosive or accompanied by an outpouring of magma.
The Pavlov volcano 2519 meters erupted more than 40 times in the history of observations. The latest activity was recorded in 2024. Scientists analyze the data of seismic devices to understand the internal structure of the volcanic system.
Despite complex international relations, scientific cooperation continues. Russian researchers have already created the first model of a seven -pound volcano based on American data. Work on the model of Vulcan Pavlov should end in 2025.
