Specialists of the Research Institute of Chemistry NSU named after Lobachevsky have developed new catalysts for the synthesis of cyclarbonates – important compounds used in petrochemistry, pharmaceuticals and other industries. According to researchers, the technology will make the process of production of these substances more economical and environmentally friendly.
Cyclarbonates are used when creating solvents, components for batteries, fuel additives and drugs. Traditional methods of their production require expensive metal -organic catalysts, which can also be harmful to the environment. New polymer catalysts are deprived of these shortcomings.
As explained by junior researcher Anna Golovacheva, the developed materials allow reactions at lower temperatures and pressure. The output of the product at the same time reaches 80%, and the catalysts themselves can be used many times. This is especially important for industrial use.
Studies were conducted with the support of the Russian Scientific Fund and the Priority 2030 program.
