The company Gazprom Neft conducted the first testing of drilling technology in Russia using titanium needles. The tests took place at the field in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, where the production of hard-to-recover oil increased by 36%.
The new method is intended for complex areas where the standard hydraulic lines of the layer cannot be used due to the risk of damage to neighboring aquifers. Instead, the technology creates a network of thin channels with a diameter of 12 mm using durable titanium needles.
The first well with 54 side branches showed good results. The technology does not require additional equipment and chemical reagents, which simplifies work at remote deposits.
The company noted that the development was conducted together with Russian engineers and scientists. In the future, they plan to use the method at the deposits of the Yamalo-Nenets district and other regions with hard-to-recover reserves.
