Microsoft is studying the ability to add a new tool called “Agentic Companions” to the Windows 11 task panel. This is an assistant based on artificial intelligence (AI), built directly into the interface that can give tips and help the user without starting individual applications. The first references to the function were found in the test assemblies of the system, but later they were removed, probably, to hide the development before the official announcement.
The new assistant will be based on the existing function of Click to Do. Now it allows, holding the Windows key, let the system analyze the screen and select useful text or images. Google has a similar technology in Circle to Search. If Microsoft adds a separate button for her in the taskbar, access to opportunities will become faster, and the performance of tasks like translation, summarizing the text or image recognition is more convenient.
Copilot is already built in Windows 11, but the AI placement directly in the taskbar will make the interaction more continuous and integrated. This corresponds to the Copilot+ Development Strategies and the approach in which the operating system acts as an active assistant.
