Since the beginning of 2025, the Telegram messenger has blocked more than 20.9 million channels for various reasons. According to the messenger, this is a record for the platform.
Why so many channels are blocked and for what specific reasons is not specified. But it is known that often Telegram blocks the channels and groups that send spam, are engaged in various vuldas of fraud and doxing-the publication of someone else’s personal information without human consent.
Recently, Pavel Durov, said that in the messenger they remove channels whose authors extort money or disclose other people’s personal data. This is probably the implementation of his words.
During the time when the channels were cleaned in Telegram, there were two particularly active days. On July 27, more than 402 thousand channels and groups were removed. It was the largest indicator in one day. A lot of channels were blocked on July 3, when more than 314 thousand were removed in a day.
