According to the calculations of astronomers, the asteroid will fly at a distance equal to the distance from the ground to the moon. This rapprochement makes it potentially dangerous. According to experts in the Telegram channel of the laboratory, such asteroids include those that approach the Earth closer than at 10 distances from the Earth to the Moon.
Asteroid 2025 PM is one of the largest objects that came to the ground so close lately. During 2025, another rapprochement is expected with a large asteroid, but it will be at the end of September.
Asteroid was discovered only two weeks ago, August 1. And, most likely, this is a stone block without ice or gas. However, 2025 PM is poorly studied due to recent detection.
2025 PM belongs to the group of Apollo – asteroids, the orbits of which cross the orbit of the Earth. The period of circulation around the Sun has a little over two years.
Scientists predicted that the passage of an asteroid near the Earth at a minimum distance is expected on August 17 at 12:03 pm Moscow time. However, the likelihood that the asteroid will collide with the ground is very small. This can only happen if the object encounters another heavenly body, which will dramatically change its speed and direction.
And there were already similar clashes: the last time a meteorite of this size fell to Earth about 50 thousand years ago. As a result, a well -known Arizon crater was formed.
