For the first time in 33 years, SK Hynix headed the world RAM market by shifting Samsung from a leading position. According to the latest data, the share of SK Hynix in the DRAM segment reached 36.3%, while Samsung has decreased to 32.7%. For Samsung, this is the largest reduction in the market share since the beginning of statistical observation in 1999.
The main reason for changing the balance was the growing demand for high -performance HBM, especially from manufacturers of solutions in the field of artificial intelligence. SK Hynix was one of the first to conclude a strategic contract with NVIDIA, ensuring itself stable demand for HBM3 and HBM3E modules.
At the same time, Samsung did not have time to gain a foothold in this segment in time and did not enter the key supply chains, which led to a noticeable reduction in orders from the largest customers. Despite the development of its own HBM3E standard, the company has not yet been able to return the lost share.
