On September 7, 2025, an unusual flight will be held, organized by the Hyld of Science with the support of Roscosmos. Participants will be able to observe a complete lunar eclipse and northern lights directly from the aircraft.
A special four-hour flight is scheduled for Vnukovo-3 airport. The event will take part in up to eight aircraft, which will fly at 19:00 Moscow time and go to the Northern Urals.
The scientific program is supervised by the astronomer Stanislav Short. Passengers are waiting for comments by the famous popularizer of science Vladimir Surdin, as well as from the current Russian astronaut.
The peak of the eclipse is expected from 20:30 to 21:53. At this moment, the planes will turn over the polar circle, which will allow passengers to alternately observe both natural phenomena. Under favorable conditions, it will be possible to simultaneously see the eclipse of the moon and the northern lights.
