Hacker leaked passwords from 15.8 million PayPal accounts

24.08.2025

The hacker under the pseudonym Chucky_bf posted a database containing stolen passwords from the PayPal payment system. According to the PCWorLD portal, the cost of the data set offered by the attacker is only $ 750.

Moreover, at the moment, official confirmation or refutation of authenticity and completeness of data has not been provided. Perhaps this is a provocation, because the price of $ 750 for a colossal size base is supposedly stolen by passwords from 15.8 million accounts – causes bewilderment, and the observers emphasize this. In the published information, passwords are presented in unnatered form, and email addresses belong to Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail and other popular mail services.

The mechanisms and sources of obtaining access to data by the hacker remain unknown. But the security expert Troy Khant believes that the attacker did not steal data from PayPal servers, since the platform does not store passwords in open form. Most likely, passwords were obtained by means of harmful software.

Moreover, the investigation of the Hackread security site showed that the published database contains test and fake accounts. However, a significant part of the information is still reliable and may pose a threat to leakage victims.
