In the United States, the court sentenced the former EATON developer to the four years of prison for installing malicious software on corporate servers.
Davis Lu, 55 years old, worked in Eaton for more than ten years and reached the post of senior developer. After the “redistribution of duties” he was reduced. In response, Lu created “Kill Switch” – a program that was activated when blocking its access to the network.
The malicious program on Java created an endless stream of processes, gradually overloading the server before its failure. When the company’s network blocked its access, the program worked, depriving thousands of employees around the world to enter the system and deleting part of the corporate data.
Lu aggravated his trick: he called it by “ISDLENABLEDINAD” (in honor of his nickname) and loaded it using corporate accounting data. When removing the laptop, it turned out that he deleted the data, searched for ways to hide his actions and increase access rights.
Less than a month after the launch of the program, federal agents of the United States arrested Lua. He pleaded guilty, but insisted on the trial with the jury. It ended with his accusation of intentional damage to protected systems. In addition to the four years of prison, he was appointed three years “conders”.
