From September 1, a law that provides for fines for the transfer of SIM cards will enter into force in Russia. According to the new law, Russians will be able to purchase SIM cards for their close relatives, but the transfer of such cards to colleagues and friends will be prohibited. This was announced in an interview with TASS by a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Nemkin.
Nemkin specified with whom it would be impossible to share SIM cards since September. The law prohibits the transfer of SIM cards to third parties. However, it will be possible to share “SIM cards” with close relatives who fall under the Family Code.
A short-term and free transfer of a phone with a SIM card without the intention to give SIM for permanent use will not be considered a violation and will not entail a fine. The violation of SIM cards or phones to employees of state bodies and emergency services is also excluded. But if you sell SIM cards to third parties or register for yourself, but to give the possession of another person, not a close relative-a friend or colleague-here there may be consequences.
New norms are aimed at protecting citizens and increasing safety in the digital environment. For violation of the law, fines are provided for up to 50 thousand rubles for individuals and up to 200 thousand rubles for legal entities.
