Rosatom State Corporation plans to speed up the development of a research liquid -salt nuclear reactor designed to process dangerous radioactive waste. The installation prototype is planned to be created by 2030, the director of the department of the state corporation Natalya Ilyina said at the Technoprom-2025 forum in Novosibirsk.
The reactor will work on the melts of radioactive substances in metals fluorides and belongs to the nuclear energy systems of the IV generation. Its key task will be to develop “burning out” technologies of dangerous radioactive substances, which will increase the environmental safety of atomic energy.
Installation is planned to be built at the Mining and Chemical Plant in Zheleznogorsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory). Labid -salt reactors have increased safety – thanks to the technological features, heavy accidents cannot occur on them. In addition, they do not require the manufacture of traditional fuel elements.
