The Russian government approved a program for the development of the National Center for Genetic Resources until 2031, in which a catalog of particularly valuable samples of microbes will appear, TASS writes.
The purpose of the initiative is to create conditions for the preservation, study and safe use of the genetic resources of microorganisms, as well as attract talented specialists. The center will be created on the basis of the Kurchatov Institute. It will appear in the composition of a nanotechnological laboratory, which will work together with other scientific complexes.
The national catalog will connect the existing collections of bacteria, bacteriophages, yeast, micro -cone, cell cultures and microbial associations. He will regularly replenish due to new discoveries.
Such biotechnologies are especially promising for environmental purification from pollution, including oil.
