Google began to disable YouTube Premium to those who live not at one address in the family

03.09.2025

YouTube began to strictly make sure that all participants in the Premium family subscription lived in the same house. Previously, the company indicated this in the rules, but almost did not check. Now the situation is changing.

The YouTube Premium family plan costs about $ 23 per month and allows you to connect up to five people. Subscription gives viewing without advertising, the ability to download videos, listen to music in YouTube Music even in the background. For many, this was a convenient way to share a subscription with relatives (or “friends” in other cities). But now the service has begun to block such accounts.

Users complain that they receive letters with a warning: if the system sees that a person does not live at the organizer of the subscription, access to Premium will be stopped after 14 days.

YouTube most likely checks the IP addresses of the participants, as Netflix and Disney+do. Previously, there was a check “once every 30 days”, but it had no consequences. Now the company really limits access.
