The company “Gazprom Neft” produced the first batch of Russian aviation fuel with a low carbon footprint. The new product, developed by specialists of the company’s technological center in St. Petersburg, meets international environmental standards for air transportation.
The fuel is based on a airline with the addition of bio -components obtained from renewable raw materials. The technology involves the synthesis of complex esters from spent vegetable oils and animal fats under the influence of hydrogen. The resulting components in operational properties are comparable to traditional aircraft fuel.
The use of SAF fuel will reduce the effect of air transport on the atmosphere. The development complies with the medium -term environmental requirements of the international aviation industry.
The next step will be laboratory and bench fuel tests in the leading aviation institutes of Russia. This is necessary to confirm the performance and safety of a new product.
