Scientists from the Lift Research Center and the University of MISIS have developed surgical threads with a prolonged antiseptic effect. The project was implemented with the support of Gazprombank. The new technology is designed to reduce the number of complications after operations.
Innovative threads and mesh endoprostheses are polymeric materials processed in a special way. Micro and applies are applied to them, which gradually release drugs directly in the field of surgery. This provides a long antibacterial effect, as well as anti -inflammatory and wound healing effects.
A prototype has already been created – a line of laboratory samples. The experiments confirmed that their bactericidal effectiveness remains for more than two weeks. In parallel, special equipment for applying drugs to fibers is developed and prepared to launch. Its commissioning is scheduled for October 2025.
As noted by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprombank Dmitry Zauers, this project is an example of successful interaction between business and science. The bank is open to support such initiatives aimed at creating advanced medical developments.
