Europe Redraws the Energy Map: Historic Agreement on 100 GW of Offshore Wind Power

27.01.2026

Hamburg 26.01.2026 — The United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, and several other European countries signed a new cooperation agreement at the Clean Energy Summit held in Hamburg, Germany. The parties pledged to deliver 100 gigawatts of capacity through large-scale joint projects in offshore wind power.

This initiative is seen as an important part of Europe’s strategy to strengthen energy security, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

A New Chapter in Europe’s Energy Map

Under the agreement, the countries committed to:

  • developing joint infrastructure projects in offshore wind energy;
  • increasing investments in new technologies;
  • expanding transmission lines and regional grids;
  • enhancing cooperation in the export and import of clean energy.

According to analysts, the 100‑gigawatt capacity will significantly boost Europe’s current offshore wind potential and could set a global record.

A Key Step for Energy Security

In recent years, geopolitical instability, sharp fluctuations in energy prices, and disruptions in supply chains have forced European countries to seek new energy sources. Offshore wind power is considered one of the most reliable and sustainable options.

A Common European Position

Leaders speaking at the summit emphasized that this cooperation will strengthen not only energy security but also economic growth, job creation, and technological development.

The initiative is regarded as a major step toward consolidating Europe’s leadership in clean energy on the global stage.
