The star of “The Queen’s Gambit” and “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Anya Taylor-Joy, will play the lead role in the adaptation of the 2021 novel “Lucky.” Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast in the lead role in the series, which will be released on the Apple TV+ streaming service. The video service announced the adaptation.
The novel was written by Marissa Stapley. The showrunners of the adaptation are Jonathan Tropper (“Banshee,” “Warrior”) and Cassie Pappas (“Shelter”). Tropper is also the creator, writer, and executive producer of the show. Other executive producers include Anya Taylor-Joy, Reese Witherspoon, and Lauren Neustadter (“The Morning Show”).
The story centers on con artist Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong. She pulled off a heist and was planning to leave the country with her boyfriend, but he disappeared. Luciana was left alone and nearly broke. At a gas station, she had to take a lottery ticket instead of change, and it turned out to be a winning ticket. Now Luciana has to figure out how to claim the big prize while being on the run.
Previously, the same video service renewed the series “Your Friends and Neighbors” starring the “Mad Men” star for a second season before the premiere of the first. The show is created by Tropper.
