Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to Increase Border Crossing Capacity

11.01.2025

Kazakhstan is modernizing border checkpoints with Turkmenistan as part of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the transport and communication sector, according to the MIC information portal.

The Kazakh side plans to increase the capacity at border checkpoints sixfold, from 170 to 960 vehicles per day. The modernization will also reduce the border crossing time to 30 minutes.

Additionally, the program to improve the operation of border checkpoints on the Turkmen-Kazakh border includes the introduction of an automated electronic queue system. This will help prevent congestion of vehicles at the checkpoints and along the roads connecting the two neighboring republics.
