On January 19, a unique cultural event took place in the prestigious Sablon gallery district in Brussels, a hub for art connoisseurs, cultural figures, and collectors from around the world. A separate gallery showcased cultural items from Turkmenistan, including traditional jewelry, carpets, textiles, and other elements of Turkmen decorative and applied arts.

The event attracted a wide audience, including ambassadors, representatives of the European Union, and cultural figures interested in the rich culture of the Central Asian region. The exhibition was organized with the support of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium, the “Central-Asian European Creative Alliance” led by Elena Kharitonova, and the “Keshte” art studio by Sheker Akanyazov.

During the event, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan delivered a welcoming speech. He noted that culture is an integral part of the daily life of the peoples of Central Asia and Turkmenistan. The Ambassador emphasized that this year Turkmenistan celebrates the 30th anniversary of its neutrality, and 2025 has been declared the International Year of Peace and Trust by the UN at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

“Culture, like neutrality, is a sphere without borders,” said the Ambassador. “It connects people, fosters mutual understanding, and strengthens trust. Historically, in Turkmenistan, culture has always been associated with the unity of people. For example, common weaving looms and tandyrs in Turkmen villages contributed to the friendship and cohesion of neighbors. We believe that cultural bridges are the foundation for peace and trust.”

Special attention at the exhibition was given to the cultural code of Turkmenistan, which reflects a centuries-old history dating back to the pre-Christian era. Guests were presented with a rich program/presentation that allowed for a deeper understanding of how cultural elements have been passed down through generations and how they are preserved in modern times.

Elena Kharitonova particularly emphasized that such events play a key role in promoting cultural dialogue and strengthening ties between peoples.

Through its culture, Turkmenistan invites peace, cooperation, and mutual understanding, proving that culture is a universal language that unites people regardless of borders and distances.
