Foldable iPhone to lose Face ID due to design challenges

08.03.2025

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the foldable iPhone will offer users a “genuine” AI experience thanks to enhanced app integration and multimodal functionality. By the time the device is released, Apple is expected to introduce a suite of Apple Intelligence features available across its products.

In terms of specifications, Kuo claims the internal screen will be crease-free and measure 7.8 inches, while the external screen will be 5.5 inches. To eliminate creases, Apple will need to use chemically treated thickened front glass, which will increase production costs. The device’s thickness will be 9–9.5 mm when folded and 4.5–4.8 mm when unfolded.

The body will be made of a titanium-steel alloy, and the hinges will use titanium and stainless steel. Apple plans to finalize the device’s specifications in the second quarter of 2025, with mass production starting at the end of 2026.
