After announcing the game over seven years ago, Nintendo has once again revealed Metroid Prime 4, including a first look at gameplay. The trailer, shown at the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, shows off plenty of gameplay footage as well as the terrifying alien monsters that Samus will have to fight in the highly anticipated game. It will hit the market in 2025.
Along with the first look at gameplay, Nintendo revealed that Metroid Prime 4 is now called Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
Nintendo first announced the development of Metroid Prime 4 during its presentation at E3 2017, with Bandai Namco playing a leading role. However, after development began on Metroid Prime 4, the project began to struggle, and in 2019, Nintendo announced a complete reboot of development and that the game would be created by Retro Studios, the original developers of the franchise.
The first Metroid Prime was released in 2002 for the GameCube and became a hit for Retro Studios. It was praised for bringing the series’ 2D gameplay into the third dimension. The original Metroid Prime was released for the GameCube in 2002, and the series’ 2D style was carried over into the first-person game to great success.
Metroid Prime was followed by two sequels, a prequel, and three spin-offs. The latest installment in the Metroid Prime series is a remaster of the original Metroid Prime, released for Nintendo Switch in 2023.
