Friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Korea

11.06.2024

The relationship between Turkmenistan and Korea is a strong and growing one, based on mutual respect and cooperation. This relationship is multifaceted, encompassing various areas of cooperation such as trade, investment, culture, and diplomacy.

One of the key pillars of the relationship between Turkmenistan and Korea is trade. Economic ties between the two countries have been steadily growing in recent years, with both countries benefiting from increased bilateral trade. In 2018, trade between Turkmenistan and Korea reached $56.7 million, with Korean exports to Turkmenistan consisting mainly of machinery, textiles, and electronic goods. Turkmenistan, on the other hand, exports mainly oil and gas products to Korea.

In terms of investment, Korean companies have been making significant investments in Turkmenistan, particularly in the construction, infrastructure, and energy sectors. One notable example of this is the participation of Korean companies in the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which is expected to bring significant economic benefits to Turkmenistan and the region as a whole.

Cultural exchanges between Turkmenistan and Korea have also been on the rise, with both countries engaging in various cultural events and activities to promote mutual understanding and friendship. For example, Korean cultural festivals have been held in Turkmenistan, showcasing Korean music, dance, and cuisine to the Turkmen people. In return, Turkmen cultural events and performances have been held in Korea, allowing Koreans to learn more about Turkmenistan’s rich cultural heritage.

Diplomatically, Turkmenistan and Korea have maintained friendly and cooperative relations, with both countries supporting each other on various international issues. Turkmenistan has expressed its support for Korea’s efforts to promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, while Korea has shown a keen interest in participating in Turkmenistan’s ambitious infrastructure projects and economic development plans.

In conclusion, the relationship between Turkmenistan and Korea is a testament to the strong ties that can be forged between countries with shared interests and values. With both countries continuing to strengthen their partnership in various areas, the future looks bright for the Turkmenistan-Korea relationship.
