TURKMENISTAN OFFICIALS ENHANCE ANTI-CORRUPTION AND FINANCIAL MONITORING PRACTICES THROUGH USAID AND OSCE-LED STUDY TOUR

Ashgabat, September 23, 2024USAID’s Governance Activity, in collaboration with the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, organized a study tour to Kazakhstan for senior  officials from Turkmenistan’s key ministries and financial watchdog entities.  This initiative aims to strengthen Turkmenistan’s expertise in anti-money laundering, combat financing of terrorism, prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and anti-corruption efforts.

Participants from Turkmenistan’s Ministries of Finance and Economy, Internal Affairs, Justice, National Security and the Financial Monitoring Service as well as the Prosecutor-General’s Office engaged with their counterparts in Kazakhstan to explore effective financial compliance strategies.  The delegation reviewed Kazakhstan’s frameworks and national risk assessment methods, while gaining insights into sectoral practices and interagency cooperation.

Key areas of focus included financial monitoring, parallel financial investigations, beneficial ownership identification, and the regulation of virtual assets through the Astana International Financial Centre.  The delegation also met with Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor-General’s Office and Anti-Corruption Agency to examine preventive mechanisms for corruption and asset recovery.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening Turkmenistan’s anti-corruption and financial monitoring frameworks, reinforcing USAID’s and the OSCE Centre’s commitment to promoting good governance and sustainable development in the region.
