Participants in the program will gain hands-on experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning under the mentorship of DeepMind, which develops AI at Google. The program will also focus on solving real-world problems by integrating AI into areas such as healthcare, social sciences, and the arts. Starmer called the launch of the program a “seismic moment,” emphasizing that it can inspire students, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, to pursue careers in AI.
Debbie Weinstein, Managing Director of Google in the UK and Ireland, announced the allocation of £865,000 for an initiative to improve “AI literacy.” The program, implemented by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Parent Zone, will train teachers and is expected to reach over 250,000 students by 2026.
