The film media IndieWire has compiled a ranking of the best Disney animated films. The 1940 film “Pinocchio,” whose melody plays at the beginning of every animated project by the company, took the top spot.
According to the portal’s critics, “Pinocchio” demonstrated that animation can be more than just entertainment for children—it can be a serious reflection for adults on what it means to be a child. The authors of the ranking note that this “fantasy epic” can never be fully deciphered, and there will always be new things in it that surprise.
The animated film was awarded two Oscars for Best Music and Best Soundtrack for the composition “When You Wish Upon a Star,” which later became the official theme for other Disney projects.
In second place in the ranking is “Dumbo,” released in 1941. The third spot went to “Sleeping Beauty” (1959).
