Tools that enlarge eyes, adjust lip shape, or change skin tone will be banned. Entertainment filters, such as those with animal ears, will remain available.
The changes are related to growing concerns about the impact of such filters on teenagers’ self-esteem.
Many young people complain that after using filters, they perceive their real appearance as unattractive.
TikTok also plans to tighten age restriction controls. By the end of the year, the platform will begin testing machine learning-based systems to remove accounts of users under 13 years old.
