From December 3 to 5, 2024, the Archabil Hotel in Ashgabat is hosting a Regional Seminar on the integration of risk management into the veterinary control process. The event is organized by the BOMCA-10 Program in cooperation with the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan.
Arslan Soltanmyradov, Head of the Department of International and Scientific Relations of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, delivered a welcome speech to the participants of the regional seminar. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of implementing modern risk management approaches in the veterinary field, noting that effective risk management is a key factor in ensuring food safety and animal health, as well as facilitating international trade.
The seminar brought together leading specialists from Central Asian countries responsible for integrating risk management principles into national legislation, as well as international experts involved in veterinary control during export-import operations and the certification of animal products.
Special attention at the event was given to the exchange of international experience. The experts from the European Union included:
- Maris Dominish, Regional Manager of the BOMCA-10 Program;
- Ms. Iveta Zemniece, Deputy Director of the Border Control Department of the Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia;
- Mr. Eduards Bakaseev, Head of the Border Control Department in Daugavpils, Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia.
The main tasks of the seminar were:
- Exchange of international experience in cooperation on veterinary risk management, risk assessment, and profiling;
- Providing support to national competent authorities in developing individual monitoring plans for import control based on risk analysis.
Participants noted the high practical significance of the event, which allowed for the strengthening of regional and international cooperation in the field of veterinary control. The regional seminar was an important step towards harmonizing risk management approaches in Central Asian countries.
