Samsung Implements New Cobalt Recycling Process in Its Flagships

24.01.2025

Last year, with the Galaxy S24 model, Samsung became the first company to include recycled cobalt in its devices, and now it is going even further. In the Galaxy S25, this material will be sourced from used batteries of old Galaxy devices as well as from production waste.

The recycling process involves several stages. First, the batteries of old devices are collected through exchange programs or as production waste. Then they are disassembled to check for damage and potential threats. After that, the batteries are discharged to ensure safety and then crushed into small fragments. These fragments are turned into so-called “black mass,” which undergoes chemical processing and is used to produce new batteries.

Samsung believes that this multi-step recycling not only helps reduce the carbon footprint but also strengthens the company’s image as an environmentally responsible brand. Thus, Samsung is not only innovating in technology and AI but also actively working to minimize environmental impact.
