On March 12, 2025, a meeting was held in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan with the Deputy Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan Alexandru Nartea.
During the meeting, the importance of the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly in accordance with the dialogue and principles of neutrality in achieving peace and security, mutual trust, put forward at the initiative of Turkmenistan, was emphasized. It was also noted that our country was elected as a vice-president of the 79th session of the UN and a member of the Executive Board of the UN Children’s Fund for 2024-2026.
In this regard, the signing of the 2025 Work Plan of the UNICEF office in Turkmenistan and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on the implementation of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Turkmenistan Programme for 2021-2025 is also significant.
At the meeting participants noted that the state policy of the respected President Arkadagly Hero Serdar, carried out on healthy, happy motherhood and childhood, social protection of the family, is aimed in our country at improving the housing and living conditions of the population, comprehensive care of each family, while noting the special contribution of UNICEF to the ongoing activities to protect the health of mothers and children, creating opportunities for the development of each child within the framework of the goals of the National Action Plan for the implementation of children’s rights in Turkmenistan for 2023-2028.
The parties stated that activities are being successfully carried out to ensure the early development of children, their vaccination to increase immunity against certain diseases, including the prevention of many diseases as a result of enriching flour and salt with minerals. They also particularly noted that with the assistance of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Hero Arkadag, surgical treatment of children in particular need of care is being carried out, medical equipment and ambulances are supplied to central hospitals in all regions of the country, and charitable assistance is sent to children of other countries in emergency situations at the expense of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care, whose activities are exemplary.
The parties noted that the consistent holding of bilateral meetings and consultations will be of great importance in the mutual exchange of experience between Turkmenistan and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in the legislative support of the agreements reached, strengthening their legal framework, further developing effective relations and bringing them to a qualitatively new level.
