The Irish Data Protection Regulator has initiated an investigation into the X platform. The reason for the inquiry is the use of user posts for training the artificial intelligence (AI) system, Grok. According to the Data Protection Commission (DPC), the investigation pertains to the processing of personal data contained in public posts by users from EU and EEA countries.
As part of the investigation, compliance with key provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the legality and transparency of data usage, will be examined. The DPC notified X about the start of the investigation last week.
Particular focus will be given to the use of data from public posts controlled by X and determining whether this data was lawfully used for training AI models such as Grok.
