Scientists have called the current path of AI development a dead end

01.04.2025

The document was presented at the AAAI 2025 presidential panel and is based on a survey of 475 experts. 76% of respondents believe that scaling current methods will not lead to the emergence of AGI. Furthermore, 90% think that public perception of AI does not align with reality and hinders the industry’s development.

According to Rodney Brooks from MIT, AI hype should be viewed with caution—it is merely another phase in the “hype cycle,” as described by Gartner. The authors of the report advocate for safe, ethical, and gradual AI development with a focus on collaboration. They also note that the next steps in improving AI reliability will involve cooperation among agents that validate each other. Despite criticism, AI continues to develop actively. According to scientists, this is not a time for rejection but rather a time for rethinking approaches to creating and applying technology.
