Xiaomi appears to be returning to the game of designing its own processors. A leaked specification of the company’s new chip, published by the media, reveals details about the upcoming SoC, which may debut as early as this year. This is Xiaomi’s first serious step in creating its own chips since the Surge S1 in 2017, and it promises to compete with mid-range solutions from Qualcomm and MediaTek.
According to the information, the new processor will be manufactured using TSMC’s 4-nanometer N4P process. The chip will feature an octa-core configuration: one Cortex-X925 core clocked at 3.2 GHz for maximum performance, three Cortex-A725 cores at 2.6 GHz, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A520 cores at 2.0 GHz. The graphics are also impressive — the IMG DXT72 from Imagination Technologies clocked at 1.3 GHz, which is rumored to outperform the Adreno 740 from Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Xiaomi will also include its own Image Signal Processor (ISP) to enhance photo and video quality. Other components, such as the 5G modem, might be sourced from partners like MediaTek or Huawei. The chip will likely debut in a mid-range smartphone, possibly the Xiaomi 15S.
