A unique cultural collaboration is unfolding in Ashgabat—Turkmen traditions blend with contemporary European choreography and digital art.
On May 10, the world premiere will take place at the Mukam Köşgi Theater. French choreographer Jean-Marc Matos, Italian dancer and choreographer Margherita Bergamo, Turkmenistan’s State Dance Ensemble, and the State Dance Ensemble “Mengli” will perform together on stage.
This new dance spectacle draws inspiration from traditional movements of various cultural dances worldwide, integrating them with modern dance and interactive digital devices. The performance pays tribute to the ancient Turkmen dance “Küşdepdi,” bringing the beauty of Turkmen culture to the stage.
The first segment of the event will feature the Akjayar Folklore Ensemble from the Balkan region, performing the traditional Küşdepdi dance.
This artistic event is part of the European Cultural Spaces project, which aligns with the European Union’s strategic cultural cooperation objectives and is carried out in partnership with EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture), the European Commission, and the European External Action Service.
The initiative is organized by the French Institute in Turkmenistan. Additionally, it involves the Turkmen Ministry of Culture, the EU Delegation in Turkmenistan, the French Embassy, the Italian Embassy, and the Goethe Institute in Kazakhstan.
The project is supported by EUNIC, the Franco-German Cultural Fund, and the French Institute in Paris.
