Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin intends to leave the Spanish league after the current season due to a lack of playing time.
Because of this, Real Madrid’s management quickly identified a new goalkeeper to replace the Ukrainian in Madrid. This is Joan García, who plays for Espanyol. The clubs have held initial negotiations, during which Real expressed its interest in the transfer.
However, in recent days, Atlético Madrid has entered the race, seeing García as their long-term first-choice goalkeeper. The 24-year-old Spaniard plans to finish the current season before deciding which club he will continue his career with.
García’s contract includes a clause of €30 million. If Espanyol is relegated from the elite division, it will decrease by €5 million. If the goalkeeper gets a call-up to the Spanish national team, the clause will increase by the same amount, reaching €35 million.
